California AG: Border Wall Is ‘Medieval Technology,’ Trump Has No Authority to Build It

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra called the building of a border wall Tuesday “medieval technology that doesn’t really have a place in the 21st century.”

Becerra told Dana Perino on “The Daily Briefing” that the state’s Department of Justice sued the Trump administration because it does not have the legal authority – nor the funding – to build such a means of preventing people from crossing borders.

President Trump was in San Diego Tuesday to view wall prototypes.

Perino also asked Becerra for his response to officials saying that California is trying to block immigration law and is stymieing Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials from deporting criminals.

“They’re half right and half wrong,” Becerra said. “We’re simply telling them that they have the right as the federal government to enforce immigration laws. They don’t have the right to tell the state of California that it must use its law enforcement officers – locally and at the state – to do the job for them.”

He added “We’re in the public safety business, not the deportation business.”
