Goodlatte: ‘Material’ Redactions Made In Peter Strzok-Lisa Page Texts

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte said he is pleased that the Justice Department Inspector General announced he would look into allegations surrounding the procurement of a FISA warrant to spy on a Trump campaign staffer.

Goodlatte, a Republican from Roanoke, Va., said Michael Horowitz should indeed take a look at the situation.

However, he added that he is troubled by apparently substantive redactions made in text messages and documents he subpoenaed.

“That was material evidence that was withheld from us by redacting materials,” he said of parts of texts between FBI agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page.

Goodlatte said that although Horowitz is investigating the matter, he does not have the same critical purview that Congress or a second special counsel would have.

He added that Horowitz must also inform him about how the IG’s office is conducting a separate investigation into the Clinton email scandal.
