DiGenova: Feds’ Flynn Case ‘One of the Most Disgraceful Events in American Criminal Justice’

Former federal prosecutor Joe diGenova blasted the federal government for what he called “one of the most disgraceful events in American criminal justice.”

DiGenova, the former U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, said the lying-to-authorities case against retired Gen. Michael Flynn was a “pretextual crime created by the FBI and by [then-Acting Attorney General] Sally Yates.

DiGenova said Flynn knew that all of his conversations with the Russian ambassador were legal and almost certainly being recorded by the government.

The FBI, diGenova said, “knew it was legal — they wanted to frame him — and they succeeded.”

“He did not lie, and in fact the FBI knew it,” he said, adding that the feds preyed upon Flynn’s open and friendly nature.

DiGenova ripped the Mueller team for not surrendering formal “302” documents to U.S. Judge Emmet Sullivan — who is looking into the Flynn matter — and instead turned over an interview they had with disgraced FBI Agent Peter Strzok.

Strzok, who has repeatedly voiced his disdain for President Trump, was one of two agents sent by then-FBI Director James Comey to talk to Flynn at the White House in 2017.

“[That was] one of the most disgraceful events in American criminal justice,” diGenova said, adding that talk about Flynn allegedly “colluding with the Turks” is unfounded and simply an attempt to accentuated the war hero’s relationship with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“They totally destroyed [Flynn] as a man,” he said. “Donald Trump was not supposed to be elected [in their eyes]. Once they were beaten, they got angry and vindictive.”
