Hume on Tillerson: ‘You Can’t Disagree With Trump on Major Policy and Last Forever’
Brit Hume analyzed the firing of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Tuesday.
President Donald Trump announced Tillerson’s departure in a tweet as the Texan was returning from a trip to Africa.
Hume said Tillerson disagreed with Trump on major foreign policy issues, something that the current administration is not likely to allow.
“You cannot disagree with the president on major foreign policies – to wit, the Iran deal – and last forever,” Hume said.
Tillerson, a former CEO of ExxonMobil and chief executive of the Boy Scouts of America, did not mention Trump in his farewell speech on Tuesday.
Hume said that secretaries of state have a proclivity for clashing with the White House on certain things if they become a “creature of the [department] building.”
“[Are they] representing the state department to the White House, or the White House to the state department?” he said of the commonly-asked question.
